South African Olympian Christopher Cosser (20) is making his mark in the competitive climbing scene, claiming first prize in the infamous 10 Barrel Boulder Brawl on Sunday 26 September in Oregon, USA.
This intimate competition pits the best of the best against each other for a fierce showdown; this year, six men and six women were gunning for the crown (complete with $20 000 prize purse). The competition format comprises four climbs for each gender, with each competitor being allotted four minutes to top the problem. Winners are determined by the number of tops, with zone holds and the number of attempts also taken into consideration.
Chris performed exceptionally well, reaching the zone on the first attempt for all four problems and topping out on the first three with just one attempt. While his competitors brought their A game, Chris put on a spectacular show that earned him the gold and ample cheers from back home.
On the whole, the event was a smashing success with live music before the competition and, of course, a lekker jol after the climbers had strutted their stuff. 10 Barrel Brewing Co. provided some much appreciate cold ones, along with a fantastic atmosphere.
