Some of the CityROCK team made a mission to the Mine to do a path build in the eroded spots. The crag, situated just off Ou Kaapse Weg and boasts over 60 high-quality, powerful routes, most of which go through at least one roof.
The walk-in, while short, was in need of some serious TLC, largely due to soil erosion and the use of the path by some overly enthusiastic dirt bikers. A team consisting of Victor Paulo, Raymond Jones, Grant Bender and Chevaan Patience made their way to the crag on a crisp Saturday morning, armed with some wood, nails and a borrowed chainsaw. The group made quick work of the task, adding steps to the especially steep and loose sections, and stabilising two crumbling shoulders on the path.
It is hoped that this will help to keep the path safe and clear through the rainy season and beyond. Beyond protecting against erosion, there is still some work to be done, and the team is planning on heading back soon to clip back vegetation and repair any other areas in need of some care.
Climb safe and remember to apply all Leave No Trace principles when heading out on your adventures!
