Join Climb4Hope to raise money for three worthy beneficiaries!

Last year’s Climb4Hope event raised R100 000 for the Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary, Animals Matter Langeberg (AML) and DKMS (previously known as the Sunflower Fund), and this year we’re going to do it all again on Saturday 12 November at the one and only De Bos Backpackers & Camping in Montagu!

WHAT IS CLIMB4HOPE?

Founded by climber, mountain guide, prolific route guide author and donkey enthusiast Tony Lourens, Climb4Hope in a non-profit organisation that supports various charities – primarily he three mentioned above – through hiking- and climbing-based fundraising events. The first event took place in 2019 and raised R30 000, with the second event taking place in 2020 and raising just under R70 000 – an impressive feat considering the chaos of the pandemic!

Tony reports that the money raised by the 2021 event was used to buy a much needed bakkie for AML, which they use to transport sick and abused animals to and from the vet hospital, pay for the replanting of the grazing fields at the Eseltjies Donkey Sanctuary, and aided tremendously with the costs involved in garnering the necessary blood cells for cancer patients. Climb4Hope is getting bigger and better every year, with the 2022 goal being R150 000 – with your help, we can get there!

ABOUT THE EVENT

In a nutshell, the Climb4Hope event gathers together hikers and climbers in beautiful Montagu to tackle the mission of hiking as many trails and/or climbing as many routes as possible in one day (roughly 7am to 16:30pm). Each competitor needs to round up some sponsors who will pledge to donate a certain amount per route hiked / route climbed. At the end of the day, scores and fund-raising amounts will be calculated, with a prize-giving in the evening for the day’s best achievements, where this will also be plenty of spot prizes up for grabs (the De Bos donkeys might even pop in for a little visit).

Date: Saturday 12 November
