Climbers visiting Silvermine and parking at the Lower or Main parking areas should exercise caution following a series of vehicle break-ins and thefts. Reports indicate that bank cards have been stolen, and funds have been fraudulently withdrawn from accounts despite the use of PINs or limits. It is suspected that the perpetrators are using a device capable of reading PIN information to access accounts.
In one incident, a climber’s car keys were stolen, and while searching for them, the climber unknowingly led the thieves to the vehicle, which was subsequently stolen. Bank cards were also taken during this event.
Authorities believe the culprits may not be confined to Silvermine and could be targeting other climbing and hiking areas as well. Climbers are urged to remain vigilant, secure valuables, and report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately.
Stay safe and spread the word to protect our community.
