The 2025 Evolution Boulder Competition was an electrifying day of climbing, community, and camaraderie at CityROCK Pretoria! With 152 psyched competitors giving it their all and an enthusiastic crowd cheering them on, this year’s event was a true celebration of the sport we love.
Qualifiers: A Test of Strength and Strategy
The day kicked off with the qualifying round, where climbers had four hours to tackle 20 boulder problems. Every attempt was a battle of power and precision, as competitors pushed their limits to secure a spot in the finals. The energy in the gym was electric, with climbers sharing beta, testing their skills, and giving it their all.
A huge shoutout to our route setters, who designed incredible problems that challenged every level of competitor—requiring creative movement, technical finesse, and sheer determination!
Spectator Comps: Bringing the Gees!
Between the qualifiers and finals, the action didn’t stop! Our spectator competitions brought even more fun to the day, giving everyone a chance to win some epic prizes. The psych was high, and the crowd made sure no attempt went unnoticed—cheering, clapping, and celebrating every send!
Finals: The Ultimate Showdown
As the top 15 finalists stepped onto the mats, the atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation. While we initially planned for six finalists per category, a few last-minute openings allowed us to welcome some wild card entries, adding even more excitement to the mix! The finals were set in a high-energy session-style format, where climbers battled it out on four intense boulder problems. Each attempt had the crowd holding their breath, erupting into cheers for every hard-earned top!
The scoring system kept things exciting until the very last moment, with every send and every attempt counting towards the final result. In the end, our top male and female climbers walked away with R2,000 Gear Shop/Mountain Mail Order vouchers and Evolv gear hampers, while our second and third-place podium finishers also snagged some awesome prizes.
