More than a competition — The Rory is a tribute.
Born in memory of Rory Lowther, a climber known not only for his bold ascents, but for his heart, courage, and the way he inspired everyone around him. What started as a grassroots gathering quickly became one of the most beloved climbing events in South Africa — a celebration of community, strength, and the thrill of pushing beyond your limits!
For 10 incredible years, The Rory brought together climbers from all walks of life. From seasoned crushers to first-timers, it wasn’t just about podiums — it was about passion, perseverance, and the people beside you on the wall.
Now, 11 years later, the wall calls once more. This year, CityROCK is stepping in to help keep the magic alive – taking care of organisation, admin, ticket sales, and prizes; with a portion of the proceeds going to the MCSA, Lowther fund and local rebolting funds.

- Climbing Rally: Teams rushing into the mountains to climb as much as possible.
- Spectator Comps – The Burn-a-thon (15:00–16:00): Cheer, laugh, and join in the fun.
- Prize Giving & Bring & Braai: Wrap up the day in proper Rory style.
