2023 Black Diamond Tradathon | 16 – 18 June

Enjoy an incredible weekend of trad climbing with the return of the Black Diamond Tradathon!

The Black Diamond Tradathon is back and it’s coming to Morgan Bay on 16 to 18 June!

ABOUT THE EVENT

The Tradathon is an annual event that aims to bring together climbers of varying experience levels to share knowledge, skills and the love of trad climbing. All climbers are welcome – from seasoned trad dads to complete noobs looking to dip their toes into traditional climbing for the first time. This year, the event will take place at the gorgeous Morgan Bay on the Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape, which offers great quality seaside climbing on dolerite cliffs.

Participants are welcome to join just for the lekker climbing and vibes, but there is a selection of courses on offer for those who want to upskill themselves: Intro to Trad Following, Intro to Trad Leading and Self-Rescue. Unfortunately you can only choose one, but a great day is sure to be had no matter what you get up to!

Registrations are open and spaces are limited, so click the button below to book your spot before they’re all gone!

ACCOMMODATION

The weekend will be based at the Yellowwood Forest campsite, which combines a stunning natural setting with a fully fledged coffee shop, bar and restaurant. You can book your accommodation through Black Diamond at the button below – please do not book through Yellowwood as this will cause confusion at the event.

THE CRAG

As stated by Black Diamond, “The Eastern Cape may feel a bit far out, but we are convinced that the long journey is well worth it for the extremely unique trad climbing at Morgan bay. Waves crash at the base of the featured, cracked dolerite set on a shale band. Morgan Bay is the largest sea cliff climbing area in South Africa. There are 638 trad lines & 7 sport lines. The crags are accessed from above and some of the routes start right at the sea level. Not only is this venue incredibly unique but it also offers great climbing on incredible rock. Morgan Bay climbing is the closest thing we have to Gritstone climbing in South Africa!”

Needles to say, this is going to be one special event – make sure you don’t miss it!
