This past Saturday (27 July), over 150 climbing enthusiasts gathered at Tranquilitas Adventure Farm for the highly anticipated Boven Rock Rally. The competition format challenged climbers to climb as many routes as possible in a single day, with handicaps based on their hardest and onsight grades to ensure a level playing field for all participants.
Blessed with perfect weather and a vibrant atmosphere, the event saw climbers of all skill levels pushing their limits and enjoying the gees of the climbing community. In addition to the main competition, the CityROCK team offered beginner outdoor lead courses and a sport anchor cleaning course, attracting over 35 participants who were eager to learn and improve their skills.
As the sun set, the excitement continued with an entertaining prize-giving ceremony. Winners were announced in various categories, and special awards were given for the best dressed; Almost Ondra screamer; weirdest beta; biggest flapper; worst shoes; hardest send; biggest whipper; and the worst camping setup, adding a fun and lighthearted end to the day. Sunday morning saw a much needed restorative yoga class to end of the weekends activities.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the coveted Boven Rock Rally trophy, which was awarded to the overall winning team of Courtney Schagen and Michael Karner. Their impressive performance throughout the day earned them the top spot and the admiration of their fellow competitors.
The Boven Rock Rally once again proved to be a fantastic event, bringing together climbers from all walks of life to celebrate their shared passion for the sport.
A big thanks to the sponsors and Tranquilitas Adventure Farm for hosting and contributing to this awesome event.
