CityROCK Is Coming to Pretoria!

It's official! CityROCK Pretoria will open mid-2023.

Pretoria will soon see its very own CityROCK – the lease has been signed and wall construction kicks off in August. With branches in Johannesburg and Cape Town, this location will be the third in a major South African business hub set to open mid-2023.

What to expect:

● Building size of 2,400m2

● 900m2 floor area of high climbing walls with 100+ top anchors, 16m high walls, from easy beginner top rope terrain to a serious 40º headwall similar to the Cape Town facility

● 700m2 floor area of bouldering offering a multitude of varied features and terrain

● A dedicated kids climbing area that can host birthday parties and kids programmes

● A cardio, weights and workout area to warm up and train

● Climbing-specific training area including a MoonBoard, system boards, hangboards and more

● Over 100 safe and secure parking bays

● A premium outdoor gear shop for all your indoor and outdoor climbing needs

● In-house restaurant and coffee shop to keep you recharged and refuelled

We aim to bring Pretoria the same world-class climbing facility you have come to expect from CityROCK.
Building construction is currently underway; Mike Behr, professional climbing wall builder and CityROCK owner, will start the climbing wall construction in August.

New CityROCK Pretoria Location:

This brand new building is well located in the heart of Irene in the Tshwane Metropolitan with easy access from the R21 and the N1 highway. This branch is ideally situated to service the entire South and East of Pretoria, Midrand and the areas around Ekurhuleni and Kempton Park.

Why Pretoria?

I have been asking CityROCK Johannesburg to open a branch in Pretoria for a couple of years. It will be a massive benefit for the whole climbing community. I am really looking forward to spending more time in the gym and less time in traffic (and on petrol). I can’t wait for the gym to open up this side and to walk this journey with a CityROCK Pretoria crew.

Louis Breytenbach, CityROCK Johannesburg member

Climbing is growing in South Africa, with Pretoria being the second largest capital, we are excited to set new ‘routes’ here. CityROCK is a world-class climbing facility that is fun, safe and run by a passionate team of climbers that not only climb but embrace our members and community wholeheartedly. We are very excited to be growing the sport by making it more accessible and bringing a world-class facility to Tshwane!

Cally Bishop, CityROCK Operational Director

 The countdown is on!

  1. Yo guys, I’m super excited for this! While you’re busy with construction, is there any chance you can work an ice bath + sauna room into the gym? It seems like there is some evidence that these can help with recovery. Keep up the good work! Allen
