GC Speed & Lead Provincials 2026 – Wrap-up

Lead, speed, veterans, and a last-minute venue change that came together beautifully – the 2026 Gauteng Provincials delivered. Scroll through the gallery from a great weekend of climbing.

The 2026 climbing season kicked off with the Gauteng Lead and Speed provincials this last weekend at CityROCK Johannesburg. After a quick venue change and some setting magic, Joburg was ready to host. A big thank you to the entire Johannesburg and Pretoria setting team for pulling this last-minute change off.

Friday 29 May – Speed

The weekend was action packed, starting with Speed on Friday and wrapping up with Lead finals on Sunday afternoon. Overall, the event ran smoothly, kept to schedule, and the atmosphere was elated. A big up to Gauteng climbing for all their efforts in growing and shaping this supportive competition environment.

Saturday 30 May – Lead Qualifications

This year saw the introduction of the veteran’s category which certainly added to all the fun. Well done to all the veterans who took part and gave it their all. Now that we know just how well you climb, we look forward to seeing you at boulder provincials which is just around the corner. A special mention to Heidi – we are thinking of you and wishing you a speedy recovery.

Now, the thing you have all been waiting for – the pictures. The proof that you were there and were awesome.

Sunday 32 May – Lead Finals

Competition climbing is as much about the community as it is the results, and this weekend was proof of that. Take a look through the gallery, share it with your crew, and good luck to everyone competing at boulder provincials — it’s coming around fast.
