Exciting news for all African competition climbers – the 2021 IFSC (International Federation of Sport Climbing) African Continental Championship will be hosted in Gauteng from 16 to 18 December 2021. This is the IFSC qualifying event for the World Games in Birmingham, USA on the 14-16th July 2022.
REGISTRATION
IFSC Licences : Only competing athletes with a valid IFSC license are allowed to register and compete. Registration will be done by the National Federations. This will cost the athlete an amount of €35 (± R630) and is payable to the relevant National Federation.

National Federation Registrations : All competing athletes are required to be registered with their national federation; for South African Athletes, this will be the South African National Climbing Federation (SANCF). All SANCF Athletes are to be registered with their Provincial Bodies and Clubs. All athletes are to be registered by the cut-off date of 17h00 on 30 November 2021.

An online VIRTUAL Technical Meeting for all participating Member Federations & Teams will take place at 12h00 on the 10th December 2021.
FORMAT
SPEED: Hosted by CityROCK Johannesburg on 16 December 2021. Registration opens at 09h00. All athletes will be given an opportunity to warm up, with two warm-up runs on the speed wall and then two official final runs, with times recorded for each athlete. Depending on the number of participating athletes, in the final we may have the athletes competing against each other on two lanes or a final run against the clock and other competitors’ times (to be confirmed after registration closes). The start list will be randomised.
BOULDER: Hosted by Friends & Allies Bouldering Gym on 17 December 2021. Registration opens at 08h00. There will be four qualifying boulders with 5min on and 5min off, as there will be no previewing permitted. The qualification start list will be randomised and the final will comprise six/eight athletes (depending on number of competitors) with a 2min view per boulder and 4min on and 4min off per boulder.
LEAD: Hosted by The Climbing Barn on 18 December 2021. Registration opens at 09h00. There will be two qualifying lead routes, both of which will be in the flash format. Eight finalists will climb one onsight route; the start list will be determined by the Qualifying Routes Ranking System results, with the leader climbing last. A 6min observation time will be given.
COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
In accordance with our Government Health Departments and IFSC Protocols, all athletes are required to produce a recent (within the past 72hrs) negative COVID-19 Certificate Test when registering. Failing to provide this will disqualify the athlete from competing.
Currently, and in accordance with the latest South African Minister of DSAC Govt. Gazette, dated 15 October 2021, no spectators are permitted to attend, unless they show proof of being vaccinated. Therefore, only officials, timekeepers, judges, coaches, “spotters”, “brushers”, photographers, videographers, venue employees and the athletes will be permitted to attend the different events over this period, without needing to show proof of being vaccinated. The DSAC and SASCOC are encouraging all persons to be vaccinated.
