New Table Mountain Challenge: India Venster to Jacob’s Ladder FKT

A new Table Mountain challenge awaits: climb Jacob’s Ladder via India Venster as fast as possible—Aidan Bennetts and Brent Russel set the first recorded time at 1 hour, 1 minute.

Inspired by Philip’s recent Paarl Rock challenge, Aidan Bennetts and Brent Russel have set a new test of endurance and speed for Cape Town’s climbing community. The objective? Climb Jacob’s Ladder as a party, with an approach via India Venster, in the fastest time possible.

This challenge isn’t just about fitness—it’s about strategy, efficiency, and a good set of running legs! While setting Fastest Known Times (FKTs) has gained popularity in the trail running and climbing world, this route combines technical climbing with an iconic approach, adding a unique twist to the usual ascents.

Know the Rules & Prioritise Safety

This challenge has a specific set of rules, and all participants must familiarise themselves with the parameters before attempting it. Safety must always come first—this is a serious climb, and pushing for speed should never compromise good judgment, proper gear, or responsible decision-making.

While international FKT ethics allow for any means possible—including soloing for a speed advantage—this challenge is about more than just speed.

As the founders of this challenge, we have a responsibility to protect the community and, with that in mind, we are establishing the following rules:

First Attempt Sets the Benchmark

Who’s Up Next?

For those who love a test of speed, endurance, and technical climbing, this is your call to action. Gather your team, lace up your approach shoes, and set out to push the limits of what’s possible on one of Cape Town’s most stunning and demanding routes.

Can anyone break the hour mark? Let’s find out. The challenge is on.
