It has come to the attention of the New World Crag owners that the PDF Route guide which was produced by SA Outdoor Academy has been uploaded to thecrag.com. This is a direct copywrite infringement and Mike and Maritza Els (Piesangkloof Management/Owners) stated that they would have no choice but to close the crag with immediate effect if the posts on The Crag website were not removed immediately.
The post have since been removed and access to The New World Crag has been restored. This was confirmed in a message sent by Mike and Maritza Els earlier this morning. The message conveyed that “…We will reopen New World today and remain open on condition that the direct copy of the guide is not repeated [on The Crag]”.
This is, however, a caution to all climbers and community members going forward to respect copywrite rules. After all, our access to our favourite crags is what inevitably hangs in the balance.
