This past Saturday, 25 May, two groups of 15 and 18 novice climbers embarked on their first outdoor climbing adventure at Silvermine Lower Crag in Cape Town and Strubens in Johannesburg. Guided by a team of seasoned CityROCK staff, who were more than eager to “show them the ropes,” these beginners took on the challenge of climbing in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Getting outdoors for the first time can be daunting, so being able to tackle that first step with people who can encourage and support is invaluable. The day kicked off at 9 AM, with some climbers staying as late as 4 PM—they just couldn’t get enough. Despite the unexpectedly warm weather (where did winter climbing conditions go?), the day was filled with enthusiasm and camaraderie.
The aim of these crag days is to provide a safe space for beginners to receive invaluable tips and encouragement from experienced climbers who understand the journey from novice to expert and are passionate about sharing their love for the sport. The event was an exhilarating opportunity for these gym climbers to push their boundaries and reach new heights in their climbing journey. By the end of the day, many were inspired and eager for their next adventure on the rocks.
CityROCK is passionate about climbing, both indoors and out. Our beginner crag days are designed to help customers explore their next step in the climbing journey in a safe and educational environment. These events are a testament to our commitment to fostering a supportive community where climbers of all levels can thrive.
