The nail-biting IFSC African Qualifier took place last weekend in Pretoria, and four South African athletes have earned their ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Joshua Bruyns and Aniya Holder for Speed, and Mel Janse van Rensburg and Lauren Mukheibir for Combined Lead & Boulder.
The Olympic Sport Climbing event kicks off on 5 August 2024 and, while the athletes will join the South African Olympic team and their travels will be funded by SASCOC, they receive no funding towards their training for the Games.
And so, to support our champs in their journey to Paris, CityROCK has established a fundraiser that will go towards climbing equipment, travel to international comps for added competition readiness, and any other training support they may need to ensure they can put their best foot forward. To get the ball rolling, La Sportiva has generously added R20 000 to the pot, plus some new kicks for our superstars!
We invite you to donate any amount your pocket can afford (every little bit helps) and CityROCK will match all contributions made.
PLUS, as an extra bonus, everyone who makes a donation (no matter how small) will be given access to watch Climbing for Africa for free! This short film by Robert Breyer, Nic Good and Luke Williamson follows Christopher Cosser and Erin Sterkenburg on their journey to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, all the way from the qualification event to the Games themselves, and includes interviews with some familiar faces in the community.
Help support our athletes if you are able, and stay tuned to GoodBETA’s home page, Facebook and Instagram for Olympic updates!
