Edelrid has issued an important safety notice for users of the OHM II, OHMEGA, and FUSE belay devices. We’re sharing this here because your safety matters — please take a moment to read and check your gear.
What’s the issue?
These devices use a barrel and screw system to secure their textile lanyards. The correct assembly requires the barrel to be inserted from one side and the screw from the opposite side, so that the screw head sits flush and the sleeve is properly secured.
In April 2026, an OHMEGA was discovered assembled incorrectly – with both the barrel and screw inserted from the same direction. This means the sleeve was not properly secured, which poses a serious safety risk.
What should you do?
Check your device now. If you own an OHM II, OHMEGA, or FUSE, inspect the barrel and screw assembly and confirm it matches the instructions in your user manual. When in doubt, bring it in and we’ll take a look together.
