Since the start of the pandemic, mountain goats around the globe have had to devise creative ways to get their climbing fix. With their latest venture, UK climbers Pete Whittaker and Tom Randall of Wide Boyz fame may just take the cake…
Being unable to travel to the United States due to COVID travel restrictions, Whittaker and Randall began searching for quality crack climbing in their home turf. They chose as their project a bridge roof crack which Whittaker describes as “the length of Half Dome [in Yosemite]… but horizontal.”
After a few scouting missions, one failed attempt and a final sending mission that lasted four days and three nights, they have officially conquered, and established, The Great Rift. Needless to say, this is one of the most incredible urban climbing feats ever achieved. We eagerly await the release of Reel Rock 16, which will give us the full scoop on this almost unbelievable story.
