Hi all. Please tell me why climbers from JHB are hesitant to climb the lower valley ? Is it convenience ? Is it fear of safety? What!? Be honest

So just a taster of whatsahappening at the Asterix and Obelix crags. Relationship building is all but complete and we shall release the beast soon enough. To date there are about 15 new routes, of which one is sport 24, several trad to grade 20 and one or two Sprad with a bolt or three each to save your ankles. 2 routes are on the Panalex which has plenty more potential. There is excellent camping and a variety of other accommodation in the area and about an hour from Rocklands. The owners of this land are awesome people who excude a degree of hospitality or gasvryheid beyond the need for them to do so. There are camping rules that must be strictly adhered to and it behoves the climbing community to get involved in maintaining the pristine nature of this area. To date we (sic) have helped with maintaining the trails and cleaning up the inevitable shit paper left strewn about others (non-climbers).

Afrikaburn lift

Duncan is going to Afrikaburn on Friday just after midday. Lift offered to share costs. You must be completely self sufficient and be camping with someone as we are "guests" already associated with a theme camp. Of course one can camp anywhere. Big thing is water! So you need to bring at least 25 litres for 2 days.

Yellowwood project: Time Consumption

A very hot but very industrious day with Squeaks at Yellowwood saw progress on our new project. The pitches to the halfway ledge are "difficult". On-sighting them requires a lot of problem solving but slowly but surely we are getting to know the beta. We bailed after 5 pitches and Squeaks even took a video of pitch 3 while dictating the beta for next time. Now to find a suitable name. Perhaps Time Consumption? So far spent about a week on it including coming top down via Smalblaar on no less than 3 occasions with Squeaks and Willem (and once with Amber). Squeaks on the suberb 4th pitch 22. A stellar lay-back stemming crack in a corner with a little sting at the top. At least this pitch is straight forward.
