Quality Time, 17 becomes 21+ with Kevin Smith.

Some 9 years ago me and my bestie Margaret Milne ventured up to the Sublime Time Buttress and fashioned what is surely one of the finest multipitch routes (of any grade) on a biggish wall in South Africa. I was obviously climbing well and very used to Yellowwood rock at the time and graded it 15.

Repeat ascents consider the grade as 17 and indeed on repeating it myself it is closer to 17 or even 18. Or even 21+ when climbing it with a heavy pack filled with bolting paraphernalia and water.

The technical climbing is around 160m but including the long approach up the rock steps of the supporting ramp, the route is well over 300m long and a superb outing.

Yesterday Kevlar Kevie, the young 67 year old that ran the UTCT 100+ miler doing around 250 000 steps and around 8000m of elevation continuously in 54 hours of sleeplessness, accompanied me and we had a stellar day climbing while also fashioning a much more user friendly descent.

I strongly recommend this route as not only an introduction to Yellowwood but also to country trad climbing in general. and in many ways.
