Calling all climbing fans and adventure lovers! Get ready for the exclusive premiere of NEWBORN: The Next Generation—a must-watch documentary that takes you into the heart of one of South Africa’s most exciting climbing challenges.
This film follows two of the country’s top climbers, Chris Cosser and Calrin Curtis, as they take on a bold mission: to onsight one of the hardest big wall routes in South Africa for the very first time. The climb takes place at Yellowwood, a legendary sandstone wall in in the du Toits Kloof area, first bolted in the 90s, which has been waiting for the right climbers to step up and make history.
About the Route: Newborn is the only sport route at Yellowwood. It was bolted by Sean Maasch in the late 1990s, with Jeremy Samson adding more bolts in 2007 before opening the route with Jimbo Smith in 2009. As of November 2017, the route had seen four known ascents, none onsight. Climbing Newborn requires a big effort and good conditions.
Chris and Calrin are no strangers to pushing limits. Chris, a world-class competition climber and Olympian, brings his precise technique and fearless determination to the challenge. Meanwhile, Calrin, known for his bold ascents, brings his own unique strengths to the table. Together, they form an unstoppable duo, blending skill, endurance, and mental toughness in a quest to achieve the impossible.
Set against jaw-dropping landscapes, NEWBORN: The Next Generation isn’t just about climbing—it’s about grit, determination, and the deep bond between climbers and the rock. Expect edge-of-your-seat action, moments of pure determination, and an inside look at the climbing community pushing limits like never before.

Steve Mc Claire on sighted it in 2016 as far as I know on the BMC MCSA trad exchange. He was belayed by Alex Bester who can confirm.
Other routes done that included Fantastic Time 23 Show Time 26 Test of Time 23.
On the same exchange Dog of Thunder was not on sighted despite attempts by and Steve and Alex Honnold and still needs an on sight ascent.
At Yellowwood Time Bomb, the Time Line and The Work of Time still need insight ascents . The Work of Time still has one pitch that even needs a free ascent. This one pitch is fully bolted!
