Iron Throne Crags Launch | 10 & 11 September

Celebrate the launch of Hartebeespoort's brand-new Iron Throne sport crags on 10 & 11 September...

Enjoy an epic adventure on 10 & 11 September by heading through to Hartebeespoort for the launch of the upgraded Cable Way sport climbing crags at the Iron Throne Trail Park.

While October 2021 saw the opening of King’s Landing, the first of the Iron throne crags, the September launch event will mark the opening of another FOUR crags – Castle Black (a.k.a. Dust Bowl), Ten Up, Need for Speed and Big Sky. The Cable Way crags were established in 2011 by the MCSA with some stellar lines that are not to be missed. A team from Iron Throne and some dedicated volunteers have been hard at work to open up this over gown area, put in some new paths and of course, new routes to climb. This beautiful crag is just a short drive away for Gauteng-based climbers and can be accessed by the Harties Cable Way to avoid the steep walk-in, a real treat!

Along with some quality climbing amidst stunning scenery, the launch weekend will also offer an intro to climbing session and abseiling with the JHB MCSA. Beginners are encouraged to join to experience an abseil and to try some easy climbs on top rope. Experienced MCSA volunteers will be on hand to assist beginners with a safe (belayed) abseil and basic climbing equipment will be available. For seasoned climbers there are many routes on offer in the 10 to 22 grades, with 17 newly bolted routes recently opened.

Round off the day with a meal /sundowner on the Deck and enjoy the spectacular view over Hartebeespoort dam.
