This homegrown documentary takes you deep into one of South Africa’s boldest big wall climbing attempts, following top climbers Chris Cosser and Calrin Curtis as they attempt to onsight Newborn, one of the country’s most formidable routes.
Set on the legendary sandstone face of Yellowwood in the Du Toitskloof Mountains, this route has been a test piece since it was first bolted by Sean Maasch in the late 1990s. With only a handful of known ascents—and none onsight—Newborn has held its ground as one of South Africa’s most elusive sport climbs, and the only sport route at Yellowwood.
Chris and Calrin bring contrasting but complementary styles to the challenge. Chris, a world-class competition climber and Olympian, pairs technical mastery with unwavering focus. Calrin adds power, creativity, and an appetite for risk. Together, they face an unforgiving wall, unpredictable conditions, and the mental test of climbing into the unknown.
