Several sources have reported that rock kestrels are once again nesting at Main Crag in the Silvermine Nature Reserve. As such, it is requested that climbers avoid this crag until the end of December, which marks the close of their nesting season.
The birds are currently raising their chicks, and it is very important that they are not disturbed. Not only are the kestrel parents likely to attack any climbers that come too close (which is frightening and unsafe for all involved), but it is also possible that the chicks may leave the nest prematurely if they are stressed or frightened.
So, for the sake of your safety and the kestrels’ wellbeing, kindly stay away from Main Crag until January and ask your climbing buddies to do the same.
