Youth Rocklands Camp Report

The 12th annual Rocklands Youth Camp report

Top Out Climbing Club and MCSA Cape Town Section Youth Programme ran it’s 12th Annual Rocklands Camp the weekend of 14-16 June 2024, with climbers and their parents all enjoying a hearty meal at the Traveller’s Rest Restaurant on the Friday.

On Saturday, the group headed out to explore the boulders at 8 Day Rain with some great sends on the Steepness is my Weakness (5) as a warm up and reminding our climbers the importance of foot work and body tension.  This was followed by some courageous attempts at Finder’s Keepers Boulder on Tree vs Spotter (6A+) to work on our heel hooks and hip-centric climbing.  We then headed up the other side of the Valley to Fishlips Boulder to send Fishlips (6B) and work on Fishsticks (6B) with some quick sends on Warm-up #1 (5).  We finished the day playing on Stage 9127 of loadshedding (6B+) at The Shark Boulder.

It was time to enjoy a cosy braai at Albergue that evening and everyone got a well-deserved sleep that night.

On Sunday morning, we all headed off to the iconic ‘Girl on our Mind’ Boulder where we first had a quick warm up on the warm up boulder there. Thereafter, we had some fantastic attempts on Coal Chamber (6C) and Girl on our Mind (6B+) with some epic sends of RSA (6A+). We all headed off just after lunch time with the Top Out Coaches having a quick dip in the Farm Dam before we headed back to Cape Town.
