Mountain Sanctuary Park will be closed to all visitors between 18 May and 9 June while they perform facility maintenance. Please make use of Tonquani Complex's alternative access points.

Mosselbay Crags ruined

Be aware that there are numerous people living in total squalor in the caves below the crags. We turned around the minute we encountered a person. The feeling is very disturbing as the smell is unbelievable and there is trash everywhere. By the level of disturbance the caves have been occupying for some time. It is totally unbearable and unsafe making it totally impossible to climb there at the moment. Please if anyone has more information on this to comment, and can also anyone possibly advise on how to proceed in order to get this crags cleaned up. Such a disappointment considering these are of the oldest archeological sites on the entire planet, and certainly one of the most beautiful sports climbing destinations in SA. This site is a world treasure yet used as a dump and no one seems to care. It shows the absolute level of disinterest of the SA management... a shame to the rest of the world. All efforts should be made to inform people not to go there untill action is taken.

To all the MCSA members out there and anyone else that's interested, there is a "hack" of alien invasive plants and trees at Cecilia Forest on Saturday 19 June. I shall be there in the morning and then going on to Rocklands about mid day. So please bring a hand saw and a chain saw if you are a certified user. Please bring your certificate with you! Here is the news feed: Cecilia Forest Hack MeetDate: Saturday 19 June 2021Time: 08:45 - 12:15We are working directly with SANParks in clearing alien plants in Cecilia Forest. This is in collaboration with the Friends of Table Mountain. This is an ongoing project, with meets every couple of months (you can attend once off, or regularly, no commitment necessary).We will meet at the Cecilia Forest parking lot. Please wear strong shoes and protective clothing, and bring hat, gloves, sunblock, and snacks and water. Your own hand saws and loppers are welcome, but the Club has equipment if you do not.Contact Michael Champanis on 060 991 0653 on WhatsApp or email michael.champanis+mcsa@gmail.com.
