The two-part festival-style series starts in Shanghai, May 16-19 2024

Break. Ride. Skate. Climb. The ultimate stage for athletes to qualify for Paris 2024 took part in Shanghai, China (16-19 May) and now Budapest, Hungary (20-23 June), in the first-ever Olympic Qualifier Series!

The two-part series, taking place in the lead-up to the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, will be an important step in determining which athletes qualify in BMX Freestyle, Breaking, Skateboarding and Sport Climbing for Paris 2024.

Olympic Qualifier Series: In a Nutshell

Ninety-six athletes (48 men & 48 women) have qualified for the Bouldering & Lead events in Shanghai and Budapest, with 64 climbers (32 men & 32 women) qualified for the Speed ​​discipline; there is a total of 160 participants on the start list.

There is a total of 38 starting places up for grabs for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 at the Olympic Qualifier events in Shanghai and Budapest: 24 in the Bouldering & Lead discipline and 14 in the Speed ​​discipline. Four places per discipline are so-called quota places for the host country and underrepresented nations.

To earn a spot at the Olympics, participants must take part in both competitions (Shanghai and Budapest). Participants can receive up to 50 points per event. The best 10 men and 10 women overall in Bouldering & Lead and the best 5 men and 5 women overall in Speed ​​will earn their Olympic tickets.

Tegwen Oates to represent SA
