It’s been really rewarding for me to receive over 100 Montagu Climbing related photos from the South African and International climbing community over this past month.
The photos have mostly been action shots with some nature appreciation compositions.
A few embody friendship and encapsulate those wonderful feelings that climbing offers us and for this I want to thank you.
Out of all the photos received it was difficult to choose which would be “The Top 10″ to share with you, however the judge’s decision was unanimous on the “Top 3″.
Thank you to everyone who submitted photos and please start taking more Montagu Climbing photos for next year’s competition.
Below are the TOP 10 Photos with the Number 1 Photo winning:

3. JASON HAYDEN Searching for the Stars at The Farm. PHOTO BY MARK CHITTENDEN

Jason Hayden Says:
“This photo was a collaboration between myself and Mark Chittenden.
I used a program called Stelarium to calculate when the Milky Way would be above the ridge in the background and there would be no moon.
This was approximately 2am, so at midnight myself and Mark went to setup.
We used a remotely triggered flash pointed at me (the model ) as well as my headlamp for lighting. Once the milky way was in place I climbed up into position.
The photo is a 30 second exposure at f2.8 with a 20mm lens on a canon 5D mkiii.”
2. RASMUS making “Thruster” (26) his BITSCH at Supertubes in Badkloof.

Damien Schumann Says:
“I’ve struggled for many years with wrong priorities, hence, with too much running and too little climbing, all my partners progressively get too good for me.
Rasmus was kind enough to keep inviting me on trips. I paid him back by taking pics at the end of a weekend when I was too weak to climb anymore.
I loved the depth Thruster has over the belay, so I jumared up to the crux after watching Rasmus a few times, and then tried to predict his moves on the red point attempt.”
Rasmus Bitsch Says:
“I got red point anxiety and fell at the last bolt.
When I tried to go back Bad Kloof was flooded and I got distracted by having a child and renovating, so I still haven’t sent.
This is motivation to get back in shape!”
