Verreaux Eagle update

Hello there Gauteng Climbers. The camera on the Verreaux's nest at Lord of the Rings, Chosspile shows no activity. We will open this Crag to climbing, but keep a sharp eye on activity and keep you updated if they return. It is presumed that the Vet has the male from this area in recovery from an injury, so there will most likely not be breeding this year. Keep watching at Bronkies, the pair are still very active, and Wilgepoort looks like they are sitting on eggs! Lets hold thumbs and keep climbing at a distance. Bronkies Eagle cam

Chosspile Access Update

After a brief closure after two car break ins on the 16th March, access to Chosspile has been restored. Please take note of the updated access to the crag: All guests are to park at the Mount Amanzi reception parking, once entry is paid for guests will now walk over to the chosspile gate to attract less attention. No cars will be parked beyond the Chosspile gate. ⁠Please move in groups no smaller than 4 people for your safety. When entering or exiting, please try to do so in a larger group wherever possible. ⁠Guests are required to sign out at reception when returning to their cars. ⁠Guests are reminded that entry to Chosspile is at their own risk. Neither the MCSA, Rissik Estate nor Mt Amanzi will be held liable for any loss or damages a guest may suffer while on the Chosspile property. ⁠Access to this crag is extremely sensitive and we are all responsible for upholding standards of good practice when visiting the crag, this includes looking out for other climbers.

Kings Kloofs access update - bookings required

Kings kloof in Krugersdorp have updated their access terms and climbers are now required to book the day before arrival. WhatsApp on 0721599091 or email [email protected] See below and attached info supplied by Rocky Valley: Rock Climbing at Rocky Valley is open from 07H00 to 17H00. Access to the premises will be permitted till 15H00 and everyone is to depart by no later than 17H00 Bookings are to be made by no later than 16H00 the day before arrival either through WhatsApp on 0721599091 or email [email protected]. Name surname, date and number of people is required. A reference number will be issued that will be confirmed on arrival. The cost is R50.00 per person payable by cash on arrival or EFT.

Rock Kestrels Nesting at Silvermine Main Crag

Hey community! Please be aware that rock kestrels are once again nesting at Main Crag, and no climbing should be done at this crag until they have moved on, which should be sometime in January. Not only are the kestrel parents highly likely to attack any climbers that come too close, but it is also possible that the chicks may leave the nest prematurely if they are stressed or frightened. Important Askari access changes - please follow access arrangements when entering Tonquani from Askari

To all MCSA Johannesburg and Magaliesberg members. It is with sadness and frustration that we have to remind people of the need to sign in at Askari reception when entering Tonquani from the Askari side. This is essential to our relationship with Askari which has been jeopardised recently, again, by members failing to follow this and causing mounting friction with Askari and jeopardising our Askari access. We wish to stress that this is NOT PERMANENT, but rather a measure to move the club and Askari towards an improved system of access which has for years caused issues. We ask that you please share this with your friends and respect the new temporary access arrangements. Once we have installed a new gate and repaired the road, we will hopefully be able to ease access once again. Lastly, we thank you all in advance for your understanding on this - the club needs member support here to bolster relationships and maintain Askari and Dome South Access.
